Michael Avenatti and His Twitter Followers Decide on 'Don the Con'
In his continual battle with Donald Trump and his administration, attorney Michael Avenatti has decided to designate a new nickname for the 45th president.
On Friday, Avenatti tweeted out a poll to his 612,000 followers asking them to help him choose a nickname for President Trump. The options were "Con Man Trump" or "Don the Con." After 24 hours, more than 73,000 Twitter uses voted, with 85 percent voting for "Don the Con."
In the tweets since the poll, Avenatti has repeatedly referred to Trump by his newly appointed nickname and in one post wrote "Don the Con's Motto -'Tell people one thing and do another.'"
Avenatti, who first became an outspoken opponent of Trump while representing adult film star Stormy Daniels in her lawsuit against the president, said his motivation for the poll is to give Trump a taste of his own medicine.
"Donald Trump has been giving nicknames for years. Let's see if he can take one," Avenatti wrote on the Twitter poll.
Over the years, Trump has made headlines for creating often offensive nicknames for those he has disagreed with. Perhaps the most famous example is what he called Hillary Clinton during their final debate of the 2016 presidential election.
While Clinton was taking a jab at Trump for avoiding paying his income tax, Trump interjected by commenting that she was "nasty woman." The comment immediately prompted pushback from Clinton supporters and feminist groups as the nickname continues to be printed on clothing, bags and accessories.
Since the election, Trump has continued referring to his former opponent as "Crooked Hillary."
Another nickname Trump designated to one of his biggest foes included "Rocket Man" when referring to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. In his frustration with North Korea's nuclear testing program during the first year of his presidency, Trump tweeted that he had met with South Korean leader Moon Jae-in and asked him how "rocket man" was doing.
Kim was quick to respond to Trump's insults, and called the president a "mentally deranged U.S. dotard."
More Trump nicknames include "low energy" Jeb Bush, "Cryin' Chuck" Schumer and "Pocahontas" Elizabeth Warren. Other nicknames Trump gave his opponents include "Lyin'" Ted Cruz, "Little" Marco Rubio and Al "Frankenstein."
