An inmate was sentenced to 99 years in prison after he escaped from a Texas jail for one hour last year.
Luis Arroyo, 41, who is suspected of murder, fled with two other prisoners from the Bexar County Jail in March 2018.
Although escaping from jail usually comes with a maximum sentence of 10 years, the district attorney's office said it extended the sentence for Arroyo due to his lengthy criminal history, reported KSAT.
On the day of the prison break, Arroyo, along with Jacob Brownson and Eric Trevino, climbed up the jail's recreational area, which is about 20 feet high, according to the San Antonio Express News.
From there, they cut through the mesh wiring and scaled down from the roof using bedsheets.
Authorities told the newspaper that Arroyo's mother, who is Trevino's ex-girlfriend, helped the men escape.
She, Brownson and Trevino have all also been charged.
One hour later, the three men were found at a Sonic on the 2300 block of Blanco Road, just 3.5 miles away.
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Jeremiah Garza testified that when the inmates saw that police were on their trail, they fled to a nearby home, reported KSAT.

Brownson and Trevino ran in one direction and Arroyo ran in another. Garza went after Arroyo.
According to DPS Trooper Jesse Perez, he and Garza drew their pistols on Arroyo.
